What counts as wear and tear?

Wear and tear refers to the natural and expected deterioration that happens when a campervan is used responsibly during a trip.

Examples of fair wear and tear may include:

  • Minor tyre wear from normal driving
  • Light dust or sand after travel
  • Small scuffs consistent with reasonable use

These are considered part of normal usage and would not usually result in a charge.

What is considered damage?

Damage goes beyond normal use and may result in a deduction from the security deposit. Examples include:

  • Broken fixtures or fittings
  • Stains requiring specialist cleaning
  • Burns, rips or significant upholstery damage
  • Missing items or equipment
  • Excessively dirty returns requiring deep cleaning
  • Bodywork damage (scratches, dents, awning damage, etc.)
  • Damage caused by negligence or misuse

When assessing damage, consideration may be given to the age and condition of the item. Charges should be fair and reflect reasonable repair or replacement costs rather than full new-for-old replacement where inappropriate.

If a dispute arises, we review evidence from both the customer and owner in line with our Booking Conditions to ensure a fair outcome.

If you’re ever unsure about the condition of the campervan at return, we recommend discussing it with the owner during handover so everything can be agreed clearly at the time.
